SVC模塊，IBM叫控制框：

FlashSystem V840 Control Enclosure (9846-AC0 or 9848-AC0)

而存儲模塊，IBM就叫存儲框：

FlashSystem V840 Storage Enclosure (9846-AE1 or 9848-AE1)

就像一臺雙控的中端存儲產(chǎn)品，但只能帶一框硬盤，而且是全閃存。

但是IBM這樣一做，這個產(chǎn)品功能就太全了：

Virtualization of FlashSystem V840 storage enclosures to enable rapid, flexible provisioning and simple configuration changes

FlashCopy for creating instant copies of data for backup or application testing

One-way data migration to move data onto FlashSystem V840

GUI management capabilities

Interoperability with support for most major server platforms and OSs

當然，很多高級功能也都有了：

Real-time compression of data enables up to five times as much storage in the same physical space, depending on the type of data stored

Remote mirroring for data replication between systems at different locations through Metro Mirror and Global Mirror functions

Virtualization of external storage for improvements in administrator productivity and utilization of existing storage assets

目前，這款產(chǎn)品支持IBM的服務(wù)器和普通的X86架構(gòu)的服務(wù)器，但不支持大機：

FlashSystem V840 supports attachment via FC to following servers:

System x servers

Power Systems servers

Flex System

BladeCenter

Power System blades

System z servers

Intel and AMD processor-based servers

IBM說，今年3月7日就可以供貨。

IBM這種搭積木的方式，雖然看起來很山寨，但確實解決了性能孤島的問題。采用SVC做控制器，可以支持多臺設(shè)備集群，可以支持異構(gòu)虛擬化，這樣可以有效區(qū)分冷熱數(shù)據(jù)，實現(xiàn)自動分層。當然實時壓縮也可以支持更大容量。

個人感覺支持虛擬化應(yīng)該使得這款產(chǎn)品實施有天然的優(yōu)勢。也就是說用戶現(xiàn)在的存儲性能不夠，那么購買V840后，就可以把原來的存儲掛到V840后面，數(shù)據(jù)不用動，服務(wù)器也不用動。然后V840把熱點數(shù)據(jù)自動遷移到840閃存里，部署很方便。

雖然IBM把V840包裝成一個產(chǎn)品，其實競爭對手攻擊的問題還在，但最少投標V840指標就很好了。而且確實解決了全閃存陣列的性能孤島的問題。但成本就太貴了一些。其他的廠商其實也可以學習一下IBM的包裝方式，不過建議做一個專門的機柜，這樣更加上檔次一些。
